Coffee Brand: Veneziano
Studio Movida has been on the radar for a little while now. Part of a dance studio this is a small space tucked in amongst a set of shops on the busy Glenferrie Rd and Cotham Rd intersection. On one side is renowned Catholic Primary School Sacred Heart, and directly across the road is the classy Italian Restaurant Centonove. Studio Movida has always been a decent cafe with great simple food and solid coffee. After few recent visits over the last three or four months there has been a noticeable step up in coffee quality. Veneziano is the brand and must work pretty closely with Studio Movida providing a lovely smooth and rich house blend and a regular feature coffee, all being pushed though the newly acquired La Marzocco machine which sits proudly on the counter. Again keeping things simple and working within the boundaries of the business is the key to this place crafting some lovely coffee.

This was a really nice and fairly well balanced cafe latte. This went down with ease, its malty smoothness and espresso vs milk integration was pleasing and the milk texture rich and creamy. Not too strong yet the flavour was on the right side of the fence…leaning against it you might say. A solid performance.

SimonL has been talking about this place for some time. I’m sure glad he introduced me to this place because it offers quite a nice coffee.
This macchiato was case in point. It had a great height, rock-solid presentation and tasted very silky and smooth. The Veneziano Autumn espresso was like having clean-shaved legs in silk sheets whilst doing the bicycle motion. We haven’t come across Veneziano in an official capacity, so it was a nice surprise.
Coffee: Espresso Indonesian Aceh Takengon

This coffee was thick. Not thick in a bad way…like an out-of-date molasses, but thick in a good way…like a deep and rich toffee. Light chocolate rolled into the profile, giving the espresso a skinny TimTam flavour (if there were such a thing). All of this was then swamped in a heavy acidity that drew the liquid out of my mouth. This was quite a different coffee experience, which was enjoyable.

Well extracted, the crema was dense with a fresh oily appearance. Super smooth, a little cloying and honeyed (like a light Tokay), there was gentle acidity threaded throughout that was enough to clean it up leaving a pleasant lingering aftertaste.
