A super looking coffee that had a good colour and a neat tight packed head of about forefinger depth. While this bordered on a little on the subtle side it certainly had more obvious espresso character than last time. A light caramel flavour, with wheat and milk chocolate caressed the tongue. It was smooth and pleasurable, sweet creamy and balanced. Not a skerrick of harshness or bitterness. Good stuff.
Coffee: Short Macchiato St Ali Champion Blend

This was just a straight up and down macchiato. It was well prepared, showed good height and nice pour length.
It held a soft acidic zing, sweet chocolate and gentle tannins. There was not much wrong with this coffee and it was quite pleasant.
Coffee: Ristretto St Ali Champion Blend

Served with a glass of mineral water, this ristretto offered a very dark crema. It was highly acidic, but that faded quickly and some citric sweetness followed up (think ripe blood orange).
As with the macchiato the pour length was great and the crema was thick.

The Champion Blend, just quietly, is a ripper blend. Quite balanced it had a fullness and strength coupled with gentle acidity and smooth body. Hazelnut and chocolate with citrus peel and pulp and a lovely fresh oiliness coating the mouth. Attractive in presentation too with a perfect sized pour and a glistening and deep crema.
